It's been a long and challenging winter for Chico's Blake Moss. His basketball season ended early when he broke his arm in a game.
The setback also erased nearly all of his golf season as well since he hasn't been able to play. He proved last week that it doesn't take him long to find his touch on the course, and the district found that out at the Club at Runaway Bay.
The junior did not play like an athlete playing his first round of golf this season. He fired his way to third place overall in the District 9-2A tournament and secured a spot in the regional finals.
"Blake broke his arm in basketball and has not been able to play any golf until district. So he basically knocked the rust off while earning a spot to the regional tournament," said CHS coach Pete Hart. "He had some rough holes but was able to make the shots when he needed to and earned his second straight trip to regionals."
The top two teams and the top two individuals not advancing as a team advance to regionals April 21-23.
Moss was among the best on the greens. He fired a 79 in the first round at Rivercrest in Burkburnett before finishing with an 80 at Runaway Bay for a two-day score of 159.
"I was very proud of his determination and his ability to maintain his focus when things didn't seem to be going well," Hart said. "The great thing is he hasn't been able to play much, but yet he played pretty well, so we look forward to going to Stephenville and trying to qualify for state."
