This proved to be a challenging season for the Bridgeport High School softball team. A new coach, new pitchers and several changes on defense were just a few of the noticeable changes in this rebuilding season.
The Sissies were able to put their bats away Friday night with a smile. They wrapped up the roller-coaster season in Gainesville where they rallied for a 2-1 victory.
"The girls finished on a positive note with a district win against Gainesville," said BHS coach Heath Iglesias.
The Leopards scored their only run in the first inning. The unearned score was aided by an error that allowed the hosts to take a 1-0 lead.
Bridgeport had an answer in the top of the second frame. Amanda Huff and Lindsey North, who both went 2-for-3 at the plate, had RBI singles to make it a 2-1 ball game.
The clutch hits scored Janie Foreman and Casey Smith. Smith had the hardest hit of the night as she ripped a double.
Neither team scored the rest of the way as the pitchers controlled the game through five scoreless innings to bring the season to an end for both schools.
Foreman picked up the win in the circle where she allowed two hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
Moranda Mares got the save as she threw the final three frames. She allowed no runs on three hits and finished with four strikeouts.
Bridgeport wrapped up its season with a 4-10 District 8-3A record and went 7-19 for the season.
