Sissies still seeking a win

The rebuilding struggles continued this week for the Bridgeport High School softball team. The loss of two four-year starters who are now playing in college is just one of a few reasons this has been a tough start for the team.

The struggles continued Saturday at home when Whitesboro visited Wise County. The Bearcats scored four unearned runs on three BHS errors to leave town with a 5-3 decision.

The Sissies made things interesting late in the game before Whitesboro ended the rally. They trailed 5-0 going into the final inning when junior Bailey Jones crushed a two-run triple to pull her team within two.

The blast scored standout Chelsea Jolly who had three of Bridgeport's seven hits for the night. However, the Bearcats got the third out to escape the late offensive outburst for the Sissies. Kelly Kemp also scored in the inning for BHS.

"Bailey's late-game heroics were not enough to dig us out of a hole," said BHS coach Heath Iglesias.

Casey Smith took the loss in the circle for Bridgeport. She allowed just one earned run on five hits, five walks and four strike outs.
