There have been some close calls in district play for the Northwest High School softball team. The defending 5-5A champs have battled from behind to win three times in the last three weeks and needed an extra inning to get by Keller.
The late-inning magic didn't come through Friday night in Colleyville. The Lady Texans allowed a district-high 10 base hits and came up short in a seventh-inning rally in a 6-5 loss to the Panthers.
After trailing 6-2 through five innings, Northwest made things interesting once again in its final two at-bats. The group, which got a home run from A.J. Deal and doubles via Natalie Nimmo and Bailey Armstrong, scored twice in the sixth inning to make it 6-4.
After getting out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth, NHS tacked on one more run in the seventh inning. Colleyville ended the rally and stranded the potential tying run at second base.
The loss ended Northwest's perfect run as it fell to 9-1 in district play and 18-7 overall. The Panthers moved into second place at 7-3 and 18-9.
NHS pitcher Erinn Jayjohn took the loss in the circle and is now 14-3 on the season.
