A few weeks ago the Boyd High School softball team felt it let a win get away in a home loss to Paradise.
The Lady Yellowjackets did not let it happen again in the rematch Tuesday night in Paradise. They held off a furious rally by the Lady Panthers and scored twice in an extra inning too with a 6-5 victory in eight innings.
Boyd took a 4-1 lead into what was supposed to be the final inning. Paradise, however, scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to even the score and force an extra inning.
That's all the Lady Yellowjackets needed to get the win.
Lisa Parker got things started when she was hit by a pitch and quickly stole second base.
Two outs later Maegan Tidwell and Emily Bingham walked to load the bases. That's when Jacklyn Fowler singled to center field which scored Parker and Tidwell to put her team ahead 6-4.
The Lady Panthers saved a little drama for the bottom half of the inning.
With runners at second and third base Boyd intentionally walked standout hitter Baleigh Newman to load the bases.
Boyd pitcher Kylie Lobdell got the next out on a grounder when Fowler threw to home plate to Baylie Moran for the force out.
The Lady Panthers pushed one run across home plate to make it a one-run game.
Paradise's Casey Fletcher drilled a shot off Fowler's glove at base, but shortstop April Mandel picked up the ball and tagged the runner going to third base to end the game.
Both teams are now 4-6 for the season and are out of playoff contention. For Boyd, it's the first time in 10 years that it will not make the post season.
The Lady Panthers finished with 10 hits on the night, while Boyd posted seven. Both teams committed two errors.
