Bridgeport's surprise start to the baseball season continued over the weekend despite losing one of two games.
The Bulls' makeup game Thursday in Argyle did not fare well as they lost an 11-1 decision. They bounced back 24 hours later to thump Bowie 7-2 in Wise County.
The split decisions put Bridgeport at 4-1 in District 8-3A play and 7-7 for the season. The group has a pivotal week ahead as it faces Gainesville and Decatur to end the first half of league play.
Bridgeport was solid against the Jackrabbits on Friday. Pitcher Cameron Green tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine batters to lead his team to an easy win.
The game was tied at 1-1 through four innings before the Bulls went to work.
A one-out walk to Dustin Krebs in the fifth inning led to the only other runs the locals needed as they went ahead 3-1.
Bowie scored once in the sixth inning to make it a one-run game. The Bulls, however, scored four times in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.
James Kilpatrick had something to do with it as he smacked an RBI double for Bridgeport.
Mikey Garcia and Green knocked in two runs as well to help score the deciding runs.
Corbin Green, Cameron Green and Garcia each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Mason Bridwell and Chase Pemberton scattered singles along the way.
Bridgeport was unable to get anything going offensively against Argyle. The group managed just four hits, compared to 11 for the Eagles.
Colter Henderson had half of the hits for BHS as he went 2-for-3 and had his team's only RBI.
Corbin Green and Pemberton had the only other hits for the Bulls.
BHS led 1-0 after one inning but never found home plate again.
The hosts scored twice in the second inning, four times in the third and five in the last two to pull away.
Bryant Daniel took the loss on the hill where he left in the third inning after allowing two earned runs on three hits. His team's four errors led to six unearned runs on the night.
Bridwell and Pemberton took over the pitching duties in the last four innings.
