To have a chance at beating undefeated Brock Thursday night, the Paradise High School baseball team needed to play solid defense and hit the ball well.
The Panthers did neither and it was costly. They coughed up four errors and managed just four hits in a 9-3 road loss to the Eagles.
After a scoreless first inning, Brock made the most of mistakes and timely hits the rest of the way. The hosts scored in each of the last six innings to slowly put the game out of reach.
The Eagles, who had the biggest hit of the night on a home run by Dillon Dixon, scored solo runs in the second and third innings to move ahead 2-0. They racked up five runs in the fifth frame to put the game out of reach at 7-0.
Brock added solo insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Panthers were held scoreless through five innings by BHS pitcher Ty Holman. They finally got the Brock standout in the sixth frame where Paradise scored three times to make it an 8-3 ball game.
Tanner Ross took over on the mound for Brock in the seventh inning where he slammed the door shut on the Panthers.
Two of Paradise's four hits in the game where among the hardest hits of the day. Toi Glover and Kaleb Read smacked doubles to lead the way.
Dusty Galbreiath took the loss on the hill for the Panthers where he went five innings. Read took care of the final two innings.
