If any team in District 9-2A does not think the Alvord High School baseball team can hit the ball, consider the last two games as a stern warning.
The Bulldogs took on City View and Henrietta last week and only stopped scoring because they ran out of innings. They scored a combined 44 runs in beating both schools.
The closest contest was against Henrietta. Alvord scored in all but two innings but still had to rally from behind in a 17-14 road win.
Trevor Hahn and Hagen Ward ignited an offensive showcase from the opening pitch. The duo dished out doubles and helped the team take a 9-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and five in the second.
The Bearcats, however, did not stay quiet. They made the most of a rough defensive inning for Alvord by scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-10 lead.
Alvord finally got out of the jam and went back to work with its bats. The Bulldogs scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and finally reclaimed the lead with five runs in the seventh inning.
The offense was distributed well. Ross Houston, Colton Oldham, Shane Watkins and Dustin Stachowiak scattered two hits each, while Justin Meador, Asa Hand and Kendall Nivens had singles.
Hahn picked up the win on the mound where he struck out nine batters, allowed eight hits and three walks and tossed 64 strikes.
The Bulldogs were relentless on Tuesday when they hosted City View. They pounded out 18 hits and kept the scorekeeper busier than usual in a 27-2 win.
Hand pitched all four innings in the game that was called early via the mercy rule. That was still enough time for him to rack up 11 strikeouts to keep his record perfect at 5-0. Also, 42 of his 56 pitches were strikes.
The game was over after one inning. Alvord scored 10 runs in the first inning and eight more in the second to make things ugly in a hurry.
Hahn had the biggest hit of the game when he ripped a two-run homer. Watkins and Houston slapped around two doubles each, while Oldham, Hahn and Ward had solo doubles.
