'Clyde'ing with victory
While waiting for the Alvord/Peaster playoff game to finish before taking the field Friday in Mineral Wells, a member of the Clyde High School baseball coaching staff explained to one of his players that Decatur was "lucky" to be in the playoffs. He went on to explain that Decatur had to win its last game of the year to "sneak" in.
For five innings Friday night at Birdville High School, the Northwest softball team flirted with disaster. Its opportunistic offense had disappeared in the Class 5A area championship game against Arlington.
Ten Northwest High School track and field athletes survived a brutal District 5-5A meet to earn a trip to regionals last weekend in Lubbock. However, the competition was tough and that led to the end of a banner season for nearly a dozen local standouts.
It's sometimes a sad reality how much stock people put into kids and sports. Verbal abuse from the stands directed at officiating or the armchair quarterbacks who know when the coaches call the wrong plays only after the execution failed are just a few of the examples.
Former Decatur High School football standout Brennan Williams is no stranger to receiving awards for his hardwork. Those types of accolades have continued to pile up at the college level.
Tarleton women's basketball coach Ronnie Hearne has announced the signing of Boyd High School star basketball player Lisa Parker to a national letter-of-intent to play for the TexAnns in the fall.
The Decatur AquaRACERS Swim team will continue accepting new members through this week. Tryouts will be held each Monday at 4:50 p.m. Swimmers should arrive no later than this time to fill out paperwork and be ready to get in the water promptly at 5 p.m.
