Boyd 27, Palmer 6

The Boyd High School football team used an explosive passing game last week to beat Holliday in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. This week it was all about defense. The Yellowjackets stung Palmer's potent ground game with a punishing defense. Led by freshman linebacker Colton Lyon, Boyd held Palmer to 153 yards of total offense en route to a 27-6 area championship victory in Burleson. Boyd quarterback Chris Demases passed for 114 yards, ran for another 105 and accounted for two touchdowns - one on the ground and one via the air. The defense stole the show. After giving up a touchdown on the first drive of the game, the Yellowjackets never let PHS back into the end zone. Boyd scored its first two touchdowns on Palmer turnovers, and Colton Sims recovered a fumble in the end zone for another score. Boyd will next face DeKalb - a 43-29 winner over Melissa - in the regional quarterfinals. The game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m., with a location to be decided Monday.
