The Bridgeport Bulls used a balanced offensive attack to throw off the Breckenridge Buckaroos 36-19 in a non-district football game at Bull Stadium Friday night. It was the season-opener for the two teams.
Six different Bulls scored in the contest as Bridgeport piled up 467 yards in offense against the Buckaroos. Perhaps more impressive for Bull fans was the defense, which limited Breckenridge to just 191 yards.
Breckenridge actually jumped out in front in the first quarter and held the Bulls off the scoreboard, but Bridgeport rallied behind a 2 yard run from Corbin Green and a 24-yard field goal from Antonio Martinez for a 10-7 halftime lead.
The Bulls scored 26 points in the second half on a 2-yard run by Trevor Schuett, a 17-yard pass play from Cameron Green to Brandon Graybill, an 11-yard run by Aaron Holt and a 10-yard effort by Dustin Krebs.
Breckenridge's second-half points came on big plays - the Buckaroos had a 78-yard kickoff return by Blaine Vick for a TD to open the third quarter and Travis Wallis hit his second scoring throw of the night with a 55-yard screen pass to Troy Robison with just 3:32 left in the game.
Bridgeport dominated in virtually every statistic, including a whopping 26-8 edge in first downs.
Holt finished as the game's top rusher with 93 yards on 14 carries and Cameron Green threw for 235 yards with just one interception. James Kilpatrick led the Bull receiving corps with six catches for 104 yards. Krebs had six snags for 74 yards.
