The Abilene Wylie Bulldogs had Decatur's number again Friday and they didn't hang up until they had ended the Eagles' season with a lopsided 46-16 bi-district victory at Graham High School.
The Bulldogs dominated the game for the first three quarters, loading up 20 points each in the first and third quarters and adding another six in the second. Decatur managed a field goal in the second quarter and a pair of touchdowns in the final period.
It was the 14th straight playoff appearance for the Bulldogs and their second defeat of the Eagles in two playoff games.
Wylie racked up 372 yards on the ground and added another 70 in the air for a total of 442 yards. That compared to 136 for Decatur, 124 of them in the air.
Decatur's bright spots included a 34 yard field goal by Jose Lira with just over a minute left in the first half. Half-way through the fourth quarter, Justin Unger scored on a one-yard run up the middle, but the extra point failed. With just over a minute left in the game, Unger completed an 11 yard touchdown pass to Brennon Lemieux and Chad Harrison added the extra point.
It was a good night for Harrison, who hauled in three passes for 79 yards.
It was a tough night for injuries to key Decatur players as sophomore quarterback Tim Metts and senior running back Josh Trant went out in the second quarter and never returned to the game.
The Bulldogs had great field position all night long. They started 10 drives at the 40 yard line or nearer the goal line.
Decatur ended the 2007 season with a 6-5 record and a tie for the district championship with the Bridgeport Bulls and Argyle Eagles. Abilene Wylie moves on in the state playoff system with a 9-2 record.
